New Partnership Targets Scrubber Reliability During Drydocking

Everllence’s PrimeServ Omnicare lifecycle service brand has announced a strategic cooperation with ME Production, a specialist in exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS), aimed at improving how vessel operators manage scrubber maintenance around scheduled drydockings. According to a report by The Maritime Executive, the agreement was formalized between Thomas Andreassen, Global Business Development Manager for Omnicare at Everllence PrimeServ, and Kim Pedersen, Chief Commercial Officer at ME Production.

Why Scrubber Support Is Becoming a Priority

Scrubbers have become a core piece of equipment for ships continuing to run on high-sulphur fuel oil, but keeping these systems compliant and dependable over time is not straightforward. Operators frequently struggle with component wear, questions around long-term system reliability, shifting regulatory expectations, and — perhaps most critically — figuring out exactly how much maintenance work should be scheduled before a vessel even enters drydock.

The cooperation between the two companies is designed to close that gap. Their combined offering will cover condition assessments, planning of maintenance scope, recommendations for repairs, and hands-on support carrying out the work while the ship is already out of service for drydocking.

Catching Problems Before They Become Costly

The logic behind the partnership is straightforward: identifying scrubber issues early, before a vessel goes into dock, allows the necessary repairs to be bundled into the yard period the ship is already committed to. This reduces the chances of unplanned equipment failure after the vessel returns to service, and helps operators avoid the expense and disruption of follow-up repair calls.

Pedersen noted that combining ME Production’s scrubber-specific expertise with Everllence PrimeServ’s international service network and structured pre-docking inspection process should let the companies deliver a higher standard of support, helping ships leave the yard with EGCS equipment that meets current standards and reflects current best practice.

Andreassen framed the goal in similarly practical terms, saying the aim is to nail down the correct maintenance scope before the ship enters drydock and then carry it out properly — rather than discovering months later that a component should have been inspected or replaced while the vessel had the opportunity. He said this approach is meant to boost reliability, cut operational risk, and prevent unnecessary costs from piling up later.

What This Means for Owners and Managers

This kind of arrangement speaks to a persistent pain point in drydock planning: scrubbers are complex, semi-hidden systems whose internal condition is hard to judge without a proper inspection, yet drydock specifications are often finalized well before that inspection happens. When scope decisions are made without solid condition data, owners either over-specify work — wasting time and yard costs — or under-specify it and face a costly return visit or unplanned downtime later in the ship’s operating cycle.

For technical superintendents, this reinforces the value of an independent, pre-docking condition assessment of scrubber systems, alongside the broader machinery and hull surveys typically carried out ahead of a yard period. A documented, third-party condition report gives owners a stronger basis for negotiating drydock specifications with the yard, and a clearer paper trail if compliance questions arise later regarding the EGCS’s performance against current sulphur emission rules. As scrubber fleets age and regulatory scrutiny of exhaust cleaning systems continues, pairing service-provider expertise with independent survey and inspection support looks likely to become standard practice rather than an optional extra for owners running on high-sulphur fuel.
